Langkawi, Friday 24 March 2017 – Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Hj Ma’awiah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force recently attended the 14th edition of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2017 (LIMA ‘17). LIMA ‘17 is currently going on from 21 to 25 March 2017.LIMA ‘17 was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak on 21 March 2017 at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre. The Malaysian Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin bin Tun Hussein, on the other hand hosted the Official Reception. An Air Force Dinner was also part of LIMA ’17 which was hosted by General Dato Sri’ Hj Affendi bin Buang, Chief of Royal Malaysian Air Force.
During LIMA’17, Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar also attended the Air Chief’s Conference with the theme ‘Air Force Capability Based Acquisition and the Reform’. The conference contained presentations delivered by aviation experts that touched on their own region and/or country’s experience and way of doing business with regards to the theme stated.
Apart from the Air Chief’s Conference, Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar had the opportunity to have bilateral meetings to further solidify and strengthen relations. These bilateral meetings include, amongst others, a call to the Chief of the Royal Malaysian Air Force. During the call, both sides expressed their pleasure on the longstanding excellent defence and military relations between both countries. They both also discussed how to further advance the bilateral ties through exchange programmes, training and other mutually beneficial activities.
Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar also had the opportunity to witness the aerial demonstration of military aircrafts, and visited the trade exhibition showcasing the latest advancements in maritime and aerospace technology.
LIMA ‘17 is a maritime and aerospace exhibition that takes place once every two years in Langkawi, Malaysia. This year, 520 companies participated from 35 countries that represent more than 55 per cent of the world’s top 100 maritime and aerospace companies. More than 300 defence and security delegations, 55 visiting warships and boats, and 106 aircraft were at the event.
