RIMBA AIR FORCE BASE, Friday, 15 September 2023 – Officers from No. 2 Wing and 77 Squadron, No. 7 Wing, Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) participated in a Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) series with the Pacific Integrated Air and Missile Defence Center (PIC). The SMEE, held by the United States of Pacific Air Force (US PACAF) was conducted via video teleconference (VTC). The topics focused on Balloons and Threat Evaluation.
The SMEE session began with an opening remark from Master Sergeant John Reeves, Manager of the Pacific Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Center. During the session, a presentation on the focused topic was delivered by Mr. Ralph, Cannon Joint Ballistic Missile Training and Education. The presentation also discussed the types and classes of air threats found in current day operations. One of the takeaways was a general overview on how these threats would be dealt with which followed a sequenced process of Detect, Track, Identify and Defeat. Other key highlights involved briefings on the challenges in the Air Defence mechanism and the air threat identification matrix concerning balloons. The session concluded with final discussions and closing remarks.
The SMEE remains an important platform in strengthening defence cooperation between the RBAirF and PACAF. It consequently provides an opportunity to improve interoperability as well as knowledge exchange in the area of Air Defence.
BALLOONS AND THREAT EVALUATION SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT EXCHANGE BERSAMA PACIFIC INTEGRATED AIR AND MISSILE DEFENCE CENTER (PIC)
PANGKALAN TENTERA UDARA RIMBA, Jumaat, 15 September 2023 – Pegawai-pegawai dari Cawangan No. 2 dan Skuadron 77, Cawangan No. 7, Tentera Udara Diraja Brunei (TUDB) telah turut serta dalam satu siri Mesyuarat Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) bersama Pacific Integrated Air and Missile Defence Center (PIC). SMEE yang dikendalikan oleh pihak United States of Pacific Air Force (US PACAF) dijalankan dalam satu persidangan video secara maya. Tumpuan topik yang dibicarakan adalah mengenai Balloons and Threat Evaluation.
Sesi SMEE telah dimulakan dengan ucapan pembukaan daripada Master Sergeant John Reeves, Pengurus Pusat Pacific Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD). Semasa sesi tersebut, pembentangan mengenai topik di perkara tajuk telah disampaikan oleh Mr. Ralph, Cannon Joint Ballistic Missile Training and Education Center. Antara lain, pembentangan tersebut menerangkan jenis-jenis dan kategori ancaman udara yang terdapat pada operasi masa kini. Ianya turut mengkongsikan tatacara menanganinya yang menurut proses iaitu Detect, Track, Identify dan Defeat. Turut dibincangkan ialah cabaran dalam mengenalpasti identifikasi ancaman udara berkenaan penggunaan Balloons. Sesi SMEE tersebut diakhiri dengan perbincangan dan ucapan penutup.
Sesi SMEE ini dinilai sebagai satu platform penting dalam memperkukuhkan kerjasama pertahanan di antara TUDB dan PACAF. Ianya turut memberikan peluang untuki mempertingkatkan tahap interoperabiliti dan pertukaran pengetahuan terutama dalam bidang pertahanan udara.
