RIMBA AIR FORCE BASE, Friday, 23 June 2023 –
The Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) participates in the Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) series with the Pacific Integrated Air and Missile Defence Center (PIC) on Counter Small-Unmanned Vehicles via video teleconference (VTC) held by the United States of Pacific Air Force (US PACAF). Participating in the SMEE from RBAirF was Lieutenant Colonel (U) Amierul Halpi bin Talip, the Commanding Officer of No. 2 Wing, Operations Group, RBAirF. Also participating in the session were officers from No. 2 Wing, the Airspace Control/Early Warning Squadron, No. 3 Wing, and the 39 Squadron, No. 3 Wing.
The SMEE session began with opening remarks from Colonel Lynn Savage, Director of the Pacific Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Center. During the session, the US PACAF presented a presentation on Counter Small-Unmanned Vehicles delivered by Captain Chris Pitfield, Operations Analyst, Joint C-sUAS Office, Headquarters, Department of the Army. The presentation discussed the types and classes of drone threats found in today’s operations and a general overview of dealing with drone threats which consist of steps from Detect, Track, Identify, and Defeat. Other key highlights of the SMEE included briefings on the passive air defence mechanism and the identification matrix. The session concluded with discussions and closing remarks.
The SMEE remains an important platform in strengthening the defence cooperation between the RBAirF and PACAF and providing an opportunity to improve interoperability and exchange of knowledge on air defence and drone systems.

Counter Small-Unmanned Vehicles yang telah dikendalikan oleh Tentera Udara Pasifik Amerika Syarikat. Turut hadir semasa sesi tersebut ialah Leftenan Kolonel (U) Amierul Halpi bin Talip, Pegawai Pemerintah Cawangan No. 2, Kumpulan Gerakan, TUDB. Turut serta ialah Pegawai-pegawai dari Cawangan No. 2, Skuadron
Airspace Control/Early Warning, Cawangan No. 3 dan Skuadron 39, Cawangan No. 3.
Sesi SMEE telah dimulakan dengan ucapan pembukaan daripada Kolonel Lynn Savage, Pengarah Pacific IAMD Center. Semasa sesi tersebut, Tentera Udara Pasifik Amerika Syarikat menyampaikan pembentangan mengenai
Counter Small-Unmanned Vehicles yang disampaikan oleh Kapten Chris Pitfield,
Operations Analyst, Joint C-sUAS Office, Headquarters, Department of the Army. Pembentangan tersebut menerangkan tentang pelbagai jenis dan kategori dron yang terdapat pada masa ini serta tatacara menangani ancaman dron iaitu

Defeat. Antara perkara yang turut dibincangkan ialah mengenai
passive air defence dan
identification matrix. Sesi SMEE tersebut diakhiri dengan perbincangan dan ucapan penutup.
Sesi SMEE tersebut merupakan satu landasan penting bagi memperkukuhkan kerjasama pertahanan diantara TUDB dan PACAF. Selain itu, sesi ini turut memberi peluang bagi mempertingkatkan tahap interoperabiliti dengan pertukaran pengetahuan mengenai pertahanan udara dan sistem dron.
