The 18th ADW AWO course under Air Force Training Command (AFTC), The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) began on 22th May 2023 until 17th November 2023. The course took place at AFTC for the combined phase and at Chong Pang Camp (CPC) for the Robotsystem 70 (RBS-70) specialised phase. A total of 33 trainees joined; representing RBAirF was Captain (U) Pg Muddaththir Zaki bin Pg Haji Baharuddin of Recruit Company, Training Institute Royal Brunei Armed Forces, and Captain (U) Muhammad Shah Redzuan bin Haji Mat Serudin of 233 Squadron, No. 2 Wing, RBAirF.

The aim of the course is to equip potential air defence officers with the required system and operational knowledge of RSAF’s integrated air defence system – RBS-70 and Portable Search and Target Acquisition Radar (PSTAR). Throughout the RBS-70 specialised phase, mission planning and deployments were regularly conducted to emphasise correct and safe procedures during operation; moreover, trainees were given the opportunity to hold various detachment appointments which enforced first-hand experience on the mental and physical skillset that is required of both air defence officers and specialists. The specialised phase concluded with a 3 days outfield Summary Exercise; consequently, trainees were required to employ the skills and knowledge taught whilst developing both mental and physical resilience.

Both officers along with the other trainees were awarded with the AWO brevet during the RSAF Combined Graduation Ceremony (RCGC) on 15th November 2023 at the Auditorium, AFTC; followed by the RSAF Graduation Dining In (RGDI) ceremony at Paya Lebar Air Base Officers’ Mess.
